TumblrAs described by Mark Brumley, this is a hybrid blogging tool that allows for longer entries than Twitter, but ones that are shorter than blog entries. I want to explore this one because it allows for student independence but also teacher monitoring.

wordpress.com - I enjoy wordpress over some of the other blogging tools because you have the ability to host the application on your own server (wordpress.org). By doing this you have much more control of what can be done (widgets and plugins). Wordpress also allows you to directly host files which is beneficial. Take a look at tombaines.orgfor an example of this. Go to the contacts section for examples of the use various blogging tools by teachers. Great for many types of school subjects. Students can add graphics, charts, links etc.

This isn't a true blog, but I couldn't find another place to place this link:
http://todaysmeet.com/
TodaysMeet is a location where a teacher can start a discussion topic and when the url is given to the students they can each respond to the topic or ask a question. A good formative assessment tool perhaps?
